Love Is in the Air

My mom’s birthday is this month. On VDay to be exact. Therefore, while growing up in our household, ignoring VDay was NOT an option. And she didn’t – and still doesn’t – mind getting all the things typically reserved for VDay on her birthday. Cards. Balloons. Stuffed animals. Candy. And other sweet treats alongside quality time.
Her birthday was and remains a big ordeal. And she does not mind celebrating it with oodles of other folks around the country on the proclaimed day of love.
And my mom has taught me a lot about love. And in this season of life I find myself leaning more on and into her care.
Unconditional love. Unassuming love. Unwavering love. Abiding love. Deep love. Forgiving love. Innocent love. ENDURING love.
Although I’m often guilty of searching and longing for love in so many other places, I’m so grateful I’ve FINALLY reached a season when I get to acknowledge, honor, accept and appreciate the love I DO have.
I also get to settle in to the awareness that there is no other love in this world that has the capacity to mirror my mother’s love for me.
Imperfect yet tender. Growing yet consistent. Non-grandiose yet grossly sufficient.
It doesn’t matter if you do or don’t celebrate VDay. If you’re reading this post around the time that many are, I do hope you feel loved. Cared for. Seen. And I invite you to take a pause in this season to recognize and appreciate each and every place you DO have love versus thinking of – dwelling on – any lack or absence.
Happy V Day to you!
